□ History: http://tokyoghoul.wikia.com/wiki/Shuu_Tsukiyama

□ Personality: Tsukiyama is an odd man to be sure. His taste in apparel is bright, yet crisp and fashionable and he takes very good care of himself - hair well kept and stylish. Kaneki likens him to a model when he first meets him in Anteiku because of his posture as well as his good looks. He is seemingly polite and speaks with kindness and intelligence. But he is still rather eccentric. And no small bit forward, as he pursues Kaneki with deep-rooted interest from the very start.

He has a fondness for books, and enjoys talking about them. He told Kaneki that he shared that with Kamishirou before she disappeared and then later, it was something he was able to share with Kaneki. He's also fond of sports, martial arts and playing musical instruments. By all means, he seems a very classy man with tastes to match.

That's why we shouldn't judge people too quickly.

Shuu's known by another name, by the Ghoul Investigators and by his fellow ghouls. He is the Gourmet - a man of sophisticated tastes who takes great joy in sampling only the choicest dishes - which for ghouls, means human flesh. This was where he and Kamishirou Rize had a volatile difference in opinions that very quickly ruined their friendly relationship. As the Gourmet, he takes food very seriously. She, who went on rampages as the "Binge Eater" had a very different philosophy. He only has an interest in eating the very best, and gets very angry at those who underestimate the importance of fine food or insult it as Rize did. She noted that his particularity was a very 'human' trait, which was a great insult to him. Even now, recalling the incident, it brings him to a great rage. He's prideful, and the truth may be that Rize wasn't entirely incorrect about him.

At the same time, normal insults bounce off him. When people openly say that he's someone that should be avoided or comment negatively on his character, it doesn't phase him whatsoever. Rather, those kinds of comments, he almost seems to treat as if they were compliments, or otherwise ignore them entirely. After all, he isn't the type who puts a lot of weight on other peoples' opinions of him. He has enough confidence in himself that he doesn't require validation from others, and doesn't expect things like encouragement or respect. At the same time, when Kaneki expresses that he 'needs' him, that seems to be one of the few things that came from another person that he took to heart.

He was a member of a famous but exclusive place known as the Ghoul Restaurant, where delicious meals were prepared and invited to be eaten before a large group of ghouls. He himself originally brought Kaneki to the restaurant, to be eaten. And he would have been if Tsukiyama hadn't turned on the group in favor of keeping Kaneki for himself out of a selfish notion that Kaneki belonged to him. His obsession with Kaneki has changed Tsukiyama more than anything else has. He no longer has eyes for other food - the only one he sees is Kaneki, and he tried early on to devour him. However, he lost that battle and was almost left for dead, had he not eaten bits of himself to regain strength. That loss didn't curb his interest. No... it made it stronger. To the point that when next he was able to meet with Kaneki, he offered himself up as his loyal "sword". IT's grown into a full obsession. One he's always been very passionate about.

Despite the changes in Kaneki over the course of time, Tsukiyama is able to accept all of him. Despite his twisting and warping after being tortured, Tsukiyama doesn't consider him tainted. Rather, he appears almost more interested in him for it.

In a way, he seems to long to be let in by Kaneki. He plays nicely with Hinami, hoping that her good impression of him will make Kaneki want to let him in. Despite his intentions, he is not unkind, nor has he ever shown any intention of betraying Kaneki. Instead, he has on an occasion tried to cheer him up after he had hurt someone and actually managed to give him something that made him smile. There's an oddness there... a mixture of his desire to devour him and an actual fondness that's very blurry.

He can be very cruel. On one of his missions with Kaneki's group, he insisted that they should go to Kaneki to help him, when two of the other men disagreed and said he should come with them to save Banjou. He became very violent, and would have probably killed them where they stood if Banjou hadn't appeared then, despite his playful insistence afterwards that he was only joking.

Most people who have known him long enough are wary of him, both for his strength and the unique things that make him tick.

He's highly intelligent, and that shows in his taste for books - a few of which are very deep and psychological, including the ones written by the author he first discusses with Kaneki. He's very interested in books written that touch on darker subjects and delve into psychology. He's also clever, and knows when it's smarter to join forces with an enemy towards a common goal rather than fight an impossible fight. And in turn, he respects people who give their all and show resilient character, whether they're friend or foe. On the other hand, he has a bad habit of teasing and laughing at Banjou, who lacks strength or powerful skills. He's fickle that way.

To an extent, he believes that kindness and associating with humans are things that make ghouls soft and in turn make them weak, as he once admired the 'hardness' in Touka, and believed that her new soft side had ruined her. And even now he still believes this, though he's come to respect the odd mixture of softness and hardness that Kaneki shows. His opinion on humans, however... hasn't changed. To him, they are food and something they must emulate to live, but nothing worth protecting or keeping. On a number of occasions he's pointed out to those with strong human connections the things about them that weaken them as ghouls. Now that he no longer focuses on diverse food the way he used to, they fit more cleanly into the category of 'tools' for him.

His speech is littered with borrowed words from the Italian and French languages; particularly used to pronounce excitement or importance, something like a strange exclamation point.

When ghouls aren't blending in with humans - they wear unique masks crafted for them. Among ghouls they are as good as identifiers, but it also allows them to separate their faces from the things they do as ghouls that might send investigators after them. They take pride in their masks and Tsukiyama is no different. It is a symbol of his identity as the Gourmet and he takes good care of it. Granted, he's the kind of person who takes good care of all of his things by principle, but other objects hardly hold the meaning that this one item does.

□ Age: 21
□ Gender: Male
□ Appearance: He's a tall, well-built character with well-kept hair and an interesting taste in clothes. They're all fashionable, but usually feature striking patterns, designs, or bright colors that make them quite unique.
□ Abilities/Powers: As a ghoul, he fuels himself not on food, but on flesh. For ghouls, human flesh tastes best however there are instances where cannibalism between Ghouls has been practiced. Some say that eating the flesh of other ghouls can make individuals stronger, and has been known to on a few occasions cause an evolution inside of some ghouls.

They look perfectly human. They've been forced to learn how to assimilate into human society for their own safety. That means that most ghouls have learned how to eat human food so as to not look suspicious - thought it's common for them to vomit it back up as it can seriously weaken them, being that the taste and texture is beyond horrible to them. Ghoul meat is similar - though not to such an extreme extent. It's tougher to digest it's definitely a different taste, and not something most would go for, however - Tsukiyama has always had his eyes set on eating Kaneki - a half-ghoul and even had to eat himself to survive at one point, to comment later that he was delicious.

The main difference in ghouls is all internal. Their organs are composed differently, and certain biological counts and levels in them are higher. They also possess something known as a kakuhou which allows them to produce a biological weapon known as a kagune. There are different types of kagune but Tsukiyama's is Koukaku, and extends from below his shoulder blade.

It takes the shape of a spiral around his arm and is both a shield and a weapon. The downside is it's weight, which makes it difficult to do much in terms of quick maneuvering, however it's flexibility allows him to block most attacks from the front. It can also extend into more of a bladed shape to be sharper as well as provide him even greater reach.

However, ghouls are also superior in other physical aspects as well - being able to jump great distances and send humans flying against walls if they strike with force. They can sustain a large amount of injury and fight on as well, provided they keep themselves well fed and in good shape.

Ghouls are ranked based on their strength and abilities, and Tsukiyama is ranked rather high, as an S-level, beneath only the SS-ranked ghouls. His ruthlessness, intelligence and strength make him a formidable opponent. The fact that he's also studied martial arts adds something to his battle capabilities. But more than that - he fights for something. His obsession. For that, there's little he won't do and that proves to be a terrifying and powerful motivator.

□ Personal Items:
✔ his "gourmet" ghoul mask
✔ a small number of books meant for Kaneki

□ First Person Sample:

He who distinguishes the true savor of his food can never be a glutton; he who does not cannot be otherwise.

[A quote recited rather fondly - that of one who truly appreciates the words.]

It was Henry David Thoreau that said that.

[What a better way to uniquely introduce one's self than to put something out there that is thought-provoking? Even so, it's not exactly a proper introduction yet without a bit more substance.]

My apologies. My name is Tsukiyama Shuu. I am among a few who have arrived here just recently. [But he has more on his mind than to simply introduce himself to a large number of strangers.] What time I've spent here I've used investigating the library - and what an interesting collection it is. I expected less variation out of a library that focuses so very intently on one subject, but no. It's not so disappointing after all.

There are books upon books that depict the uses of food in sexual encounters, and I must say I'm intrigued. Food and sex can both be considered pleasures, after all. It stands to suggest that they would mix nicely. If you're looking for something to try, I highly suggest it.

[It matters not that he hasn't necessarily tried it for himself.]
